Five Mountain Zen Order – Sangha Weekend – November 01-04, 2012

Picture

Please join us from Thursday to Sunday, November 01-04, for the Five Mountain Zen Order Sangha Weekend and Retreat, held at the Zen Center of Las Vegas. We do hope to see you here! Please read below for detailed information, a link for registration, and a schedule for the weekend.

In honor of our founding Grand-Teacher, Zen Master Seung Sahn’s love for Sangha Gatherings, we are now instituting semi-annual events where our family can come together, share, learn and most of all connect with others in our wide spread group. Highlights of the weekend include a Full Bhikșu / Bhikṣuni Ordination on Thursday, a Dharma Holder Ceremony on Friday, and College Graduation Commencement and General Precepts Ceremony on Saturday. Additionally, we will have eight open forum events during the weekend covering many diverse topics that are close to all our hearts. This is a chance to share equally with your Dharma Sisters and Brothers.

Mornings and early Evenings will be dedicated to traditional Zen sitting practice and everyone will have an opportunity for Zen Kong’an Interviews, so we are sure that you will have a well rounded and fulfilling event.

What to Bring

There are some inflatable mattresses, sleeping pads, as well as plush zabutons and couches suitable to sleep on dormitory style, also there are limited linens and blankets for sleeping so you may want to bring a sleeping bag. If you need privacy you may want to consider staying in a nearby motel, otherwise we always seem to manage. We will provide zafu’s, zabutons, and chairs – however if you need a kneeling bench, special cushions, or a special chair, please bring your own.

We supply toilet paper and hand soap, but you must bring all other toiletry and personal care articles.

Also, please bring:
• a towel and a small flashlight
• your robe if you have one
• training clothes for meditation and work (gi, samue). If you do not own these traditional clothes, just wear loose, comfortable clothing without bright colors
• seasonally appropriate outdoor clothes, including rain gear, for both walking meditation and work

Please do not bring:
• Cameras, tape recorders, MP3 players, CD players. cellular phones, PDAs, laptops, or diaries
• Personal food or beverages; hot pots, thermoses, etc.
• jewelry, perfumes, or any personal care products which are strongly scented
